This weekend I think I bucked the trend of most people who received their rebate checks. According to the news on TV a lot of people are taking their rebate check and are paying down credit card debt. I don’t know if this is true for the vast majority of the people in the U.S. All I know is that I took the rebate check that my family and I received and spent the hell out of it. My family received a check for $2100.00 because we have three kids.
A lot of parents would not do what we did! We gave each one of our kids $100.00 each so they could spend it anyway they liked. The fact is that we would not have gotten such a big check if we had not had kids. So I thought it only fair that they receive a little pocket change. Like any good consumer my kids went to Toys’R'Us and spent it that day! Should they have saved the money in their piggy banks? Probably so but hey this kind of thing does not come around for them all that often.
My wife spent the portion she wanted on a really nice digital camera. Quite frankly she is a little picture happy when it comes to the kids and the dogs so it was definitely the best thing that she could have gotten.
Myself I think I went a little crazy with my portion! I took my portion of the money and purchased two 24 inch monitors and a 1GB graphics card for my computer. Each of these monitors has a screen resolution of 1920X1200 and they are both hooked up to the same computer. The graphics card allows me to have dual monitors on this machine and the amount of video memory is unbelievable. Right now I have Microsoft Word and three sessions of Internet Explorer open at the same time side by side on the screen. None of windows I currently have opened are minimized. I can see everything I need to see as I am writing this post. Let me just say that if you have the means to get a dual monitor set up with this kind of resolution than by all means please do so. You will not regret it for on instance.
I also got a new motherboard for this machine too. The computer I am currently working has the following specs:
- 2Ghz Dual Core Processor
- 2 Gb RAM
- 1 GB Video Ram
- 1 Terabyte hard drive space
- 2 Acer 24 inch monitors (1920X1200) resolution
- Windows Vista Ultimate
- Microsoft Office 2007
- DVD-ROM
- CD-RW burner
I have two DVD burners however they are on the family computer downstairs. I never burn anything large anyways. This entire computer was built by me from scratch so I am happy with what I got. Although I could build something a lot better if I wanted too!
So that was my weekend building a computer from scratch and family time. There were no “real” stories to write about when it comes to Japanese cars since Thursday so that’s why there have been no updates.
As of right now I am actively looking into getting a forum and gallery applications for this website. Lots of testing needs to be done before I implement anything plus I am sure you as the reader will appreciate a site that just works right.
