Subaru recently did some research behind their brand and had a couple revelations. One people know and respect the brand that is Subaru. Two people unfortunately have no strong emotional ties to the brand. You know that is probably true for the most part. My sister and her husband had a Subaru a long time ago and they never had a problem with ever. I personally can’t remember which model it was and I am not going to pick up the phone at 4:00 am to ask her either. What I do remember about their little car was that it was dependable, got good gas mileage, and it never made my sister complain about it. The thing is that they (my sister and her husband) never bought another Subaru after that one. I am not exactly sure why they never bought another Subaru but it may be related to the research that I mentioned previously. I will give you an example of “love” in brand! I have mentioned previously on this blog that my family gets a Honda every two years because of Honda’s lease program. That is not love that is economics. My example of “love” in a brand is the fact that except for one car all of my vehicles have been from the brand Dodge or Chrysler (same thing). I have owned a’93 Dodge Shadow, a 2000 Dodge Neon, and a 2004 Dodge Neon. I don’t have the 2004 Dodge Neon anymore the ex-wife has it now. I do however have a 2000 Dodge Caravan as one of my vehicles right now along with me before mentioned 2008 Honda Odyssey. Now that is brand love I could have bought any other brand when the need arose. However I decided to stay with the Dodge brand because every one of those vehicles was good to me.
In my personal opinion is that if Subaru does this right they will get the same brand “love” that other car manufacturers receive. I also think that they may need to be more in your face about their “love” campaigns because quite frankly I personally cannot remember any Subaru commercials off the top of my head while writing this post like I can other brands like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Dodge, Cadillac, etc. You should start seeing ads containing the ad campaign based on the emotion “love” pretty soon if you have not already. Next time Subaru do yourself a favor and save a couple million dollars and just ask me what you are missing. My opinion can be bought for the low price of $19.95 (just kiddin)
