My last post was a lengthy discussion on the Battlestar Galactica Cylons which took a lot of my weekend away to research what I wanted to say. That last post stopped me from writing this post about Honda’s ASIMO conducting an orchestra for a bunch of kids. ASIMO is a technological marvel in my opinion. It just shows how far technology has come today compared to 100 years ago when a lot of people still did not have a car. Although true artificial intelligence is not yet here ASIMO is a step in the right direction. Honda is doing a wonderful thing by using ASIMO as a tool to get children interested in science and math especially here in the United States where test scores have been falling for a lot of years. Now Honda has released word that ASIMO is going to conduct a professional orchestra. ASIMO will conduct the song “Impossible Dream” with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 8 pm. Obviously Yo-Yo Ma is not the whole orchestra he is going to be accompanied by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. I am sure the ticket for this event will be hard to get and expensive but that shouldn’t stop you from trying to go to it anyway. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I wish I could attend. Honda if you are reading this I would like an all expense paid trip to see this concert. Yea right huh!
This is not the only concert that ASIMO will be participating in. The Honda designed robot will have an encore presentation the next day for a bunch of musically talented kids in the Detroit and Winsor, Canada area. All of this “work” by ASIMO is Honda’s commitment to children’s education and philanthropy through “The Power of Dreams Music Education Fund”. As a part of this “giving back” program Honda is working with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to solicit donations through the website http://www.detroitsymphony.com
